Enhanced Control
In order to ensure that major change delivery is ‘under control’, it is important that all parties responsible for the delivery are working in a common, consistent manner. PMViz ensures an appropriate level of control the provides full visibility of progress, highlighting the trouble spots to both the executive / operational business leadership stakeholders and to the individuals designing, building and delivering the change.
'Control' is exercised in various ways. For example, data ownership is clear and unambiguous, which helps drive up the quality of input. Data input and maintenance is simple and quick, and the system will highlight where data requires updating, e.g. overdue milestones, risks requiring review, actions requiring update, missing status reports. Visibility of these data quality issues allows appropriate management action to be taken where necessary.
Other controls include ensuring higher level milestone dates cannot be reset (or rebaselined) without the required level of user authority. This allows the Programme Manager, for example, to ensure a framework of high level 'programme' milestones cannot be changed without his approval, but allows revised forecast dates to be proposed by his project managers.
User access to data is also strictly controlled. Most users can 'read' all the data under their Programme, but it is possible to restrict specific users view of data, for example if you want to grant limited access to third-party users. Update access to data is also strictly controlled, reinforcing the 'data ownership' point referred to above.
